Park Chan-Wook, conferencia magistral [GIFF 2012]

Guanajuato, Gto.- En el Auditorio del Estado de Guanajuato el cineasta Park Chan-Wook ofreció, a manera de entrevista, una conferencia magistral en el que compartió con el público sus secretos para hacer cine, así como algunas experiencias que ha vivido trabajando el séptimo arte.

A pesar de que el evento estuvo marcado por fallas en el equipo de sonido y el “babel” de traductores que acompañó a Park durante todo el festival, el cineasta surcoreano compartió con los asistentes algunos datos de su formación artística, y de su infancia.

Park, nacido en Corea del Sur hacia 1963, explicó que creció en un país empobrecido, presa de una fuerte dictadura militar, y, aunque poco después volcó hacia una fuerte aceleración económica, su país no avanzó en democracia. De esos años —dijo— su cine heredó la angustia y el temor hacia la violencia, pues las manifestaciones estudiantiles, los presos y los muertos políticos —e incluso, las inmolaciones en protestas— eran cosa de todos los días.

El cineasta recordó también su paso por la Facultad de Filosofía, donde, al darse cuenta de que ninguna de las clases le interesaba realmente, buscó nuevos espacios para encontrar su camino, así que fundó un cineclub. Fue durante esa etapa cuando conoció el trabajo de muchos directores occidentales y remarcó el gusto por los maestros de oriente. Entre cineastas y literatos, Park mencionó a Dostoyevski, Sófocles, Polanski y Shakespeare, entre otros, como sus mayores influencias.

Cuestionado acerca del porqué uno de los temas principales de sus filmes es la venganza, el autor de la llamada “Trilogía de la Venganza” —Señor Venganza (2002), Oldboy (2003) y Señora Venganza (2005)— expresó que ese es un tópico que quiere dejar atrás, y —aclaró— en ningún momento buscó justificar la violencia con el arte.

El tema final de la charla se centró en su filme Stoker (2012), recientemente rodado en Estados Unidos y el cual tiene a Nicole Kidman como protagonista. “En EE.UU. filman como locos —bromeó—, en Corea al cortar cada escena los actores ven los monitores, platican y hacen correcciones, además de que hacemos la edición juntos. En Estados Unidos los actores no se acercan al monitor. Nicole Kidman no se me acercaba para nada, supongo que por lo ocupada que estaba”.

Acerca de su estancia en Guanajuato, el cineasta declaró haber soñado encontrarse con la ciudad mexicana desde que vio la película Bring me the head of Alfredo García (Sam Peckimpah, 1974), ya que en ella un grupo de amigos juran visitarla. Asimismo, subrayó la belleza de la ciudad, donde dijo haber encontrado gran calor humano: “Los coreanos están muy ocupados y siempre compitiendo, pero en Guanajuato observo que la gente tiene tiempo para sus sentimientos y todos se ven felices. Yo quiero vivir así”, finalizó.
