“Sólo es hombre aquel que crea y son sus camaradas los que colaboran con él”, agradeció en lengua hñähñu Raymundo Isidro Alavez, Dr. en Sociología por la UNAM, al presentar su obra más reciente: El llano en llamas: Traducción al Hñähñu. Rocío Montiel Toledo, profesora de Letras en Facultad de Estudios Superiores Acatlán, y David Wright Carr, especialista de la cultural otomí del Valle del Mezquital, antecedieron al autor en el uso de la palabra. La presentación se llevó a cabo en el marco de la XXXV Feria Internacional del Libro del Palacio de Minería.

Rocío Montiel comentó que la obra de Rulfo se desarrolló en un contexto de grandes cambios para México. Pedro Páramo de 1957 y El Llano en llamas de 1953 denotan la inclinación de Juan Rulfo por un movimiento esencial de la novela, caracterizado por su intensidad y por su brevedad, Rulfo “crea un universo antropológico e intemporal”, juzgó la académica.

Por su parte, David Wright realizó un repaso sobre la tradición escrita del hñähñu. El hñähñu es una de las nueve variantes del otomí, “la lengua otomí tiene raíces milenarias en el valle de México, el pueblo otomí ha sido subestimado”. El investigador explicó que aunque hay coincidencias en las variantes del otomí, y por lo tanto, es posible un relativo entendimiento entre las distintas lenguas, cada una constituye un universo lingüístico propio.

El hñähñu es la variante del otomí hablada en el Valle del Mezquital, Hidalgo. Esta lengua está en riesgo de desaparecer porque en la actualidad los jóvenes ya no lo están aprendiendo. El hñähñu era una lengua oral; sin embargo, “a partir de la época novohispana hay cientos de textos en otomí, incluso crítica literaria”.

Durante el siglo XIX se publicaron dos catecismos en hñähñu. El catecismo de Fray Joaquín Yépez es un texto rico por sus toponimias y por su gran precisión fonológica, explicó el especialista. En la década de los 50’s del siglo pasado un grupo de misioneros, disfrazados de investigadores, rescataron el alfabeto hñähñu y se publicaron nueve libros en esa lengua. A partir de entonces poco a poco ha emergido el interés por rescatar la lengua.

El llano en llamas traducido por Raymundo Alavez es un ejemplo de ese esfuerzo por la preservación de las lenguas antiguas. Además de esta obra de Rulfo, el sociólogo ha publicado un par de obras más en hñähñu: La visión de los vencidos y El principito. El traductor dijo que, “cuando a un pueblo se le arrebata su lengua, se vacía su cultura y se le quita su esencia. Por eso queremos defender nuestra lengua y nuestro arte maternos”, puntualizó.
